Hey, it's Afiqah!

My Photo.webp

A creative entrepreneur and Arts Management student at LASALLE College of the Arts, driven by a passion for elevating Singapore’s emerging performing artists. I believe in the power of storytelling, branding and strategic talent management to build stronger connections between artists and audiences.

Music has always been part of my identity: my father was a saxophonist who performed professionally across Malaysia and Singapore, and my great-grandfather penned the beloved folk song “Di Tanjong Katong.” This heritage inspires my commitment to uplifting our local music ecosystem and championing its cultural significance.

As Co-Founder and Creative Director of AKAR, I work with emerging musicians to shape their sound, sharpen their visuals, and build the networks they need to grow. My practice centres on nurturing talent and strengthening a more vibrant, inclusive arts community.

Beyond management, I tell stories through photography, film, and writing—capturing the textures of culture, language, and everyday life. You’ll find me exploring heritage spaces or discovering new sounds at local gigs.

I’m here to collaborate, connect, and champion the next generation of creatives. Let’s build the future of our arts scene together.

AKAR

Creative Director & Co-Founder

[2021-Present]

As the Creative Director and Co-Founder of AKAR, I work closely with artists to shape their releases, refine their identity and grow their place in the industry. I build bridges with partners across music, arts and adjacent communities, creating opportunities that help our artists move forward.

My work spans events, design, photography and filmmaking, and it takes a lot of heart, patience and late nights to keep it all moving. AKAR is both a craft and a commitment, and I’m proud to grow it with the people who trust us.

Singapore Heritage Society

Social Media & Research Intern

[May 2025-July 2025]

I contributed to SHS’s public outreach by strengthening its digital presence through content planning and targeted social media strategies, growing audience reach from 4,000 to 72,000 page views. I supported heritage advocacy through projects such as Pulau Brani research, kelong archival documentation, and public engagement efforts. I also assisted in fundraising initiatives, including a book fair that raised over $4,000, and led a merchandise collaboration with WackyWears to promote cultural appreciation through design. This role deepened my skills in heritage communication, stakeholder coordination, and culturally grounded storytelling.

The Smart Local

Creative Assistant [Internship]

[September 2022-March 2023]

During my six-month internship, I worked primarily on photography while also contributing to video editing tasks for digital content. I produced both advertorial and organic content for lifestyle, fashion, product, and news features, ensuring alignment with client objectives and audience trends. This role sharpened my visual storytelling skills, strengthened my understanding of branded content production, and gave me hands-on experience working in a fast-paced media environment.
